The Original Ridgewood Barbecue in Bluff City, TN was carved into the side of a mountain 75 years ago in 1948 and is about 20 minutes from where the elder Monks and brother Monks now live in Elizabethton in the present day. They've regularly got lines as soon as they open on normal days and have done big business in race weekends at the nearby Bristol Motor Speedway.
RIP to @buxtonhallbbq whose last day of service was one week ago on 11/22. Here's photos from Monk's first visit in 2016. They will certainly be missed.
‘Twas the night before Thanksgiving.
#woodpilewednesday at the old Smiley's in Lexington. RIP to a real one.
A couple days late for #nationalsandwichday but here's a Lexington-style slider with red slaw on a @potatorolls slider bun. Referenced John Shelton Reed's"Barbecue" recipe book for the dip and red slaw.
#nationalsandwichday you say?
Woodpile at @wilsoncountybarbecue in Portland, ME #woodpilewednesday
Mrs. Monk insisted on @longleafswinebbq yesterday for lunch so she could get the Collards Green Melt sandwich again. I enjoyed my Whole Hog Sandwich with a side of Brunswick stew. -Monk
